BWB Retreat Reflections
"I create my community, wherever I go"
⬆️ This was a mantra of mine 2.5 years ago, as I started a new career as a personal trainer after 15 years as a teacher. I was a total baby giraffe (IYKYK) and felt wobbly AF, trying to find my legs and stand tall in a new sea of uncertainty. 🦒
Leaving teaching was tough - I couldn't imagine doing anything else. 🤔
Today, I get to reflect on how far I've come!
I remember wondering if I would like the fitness industry. Would I be any good as a trainer? Could I stay true to myself and my goals of helping people to find their strongest selves, inside and out, all while surrounded by an environment dripping with toxic messaging about self-worth being tied to body shape and size and outward aesthetics?
I honestly wasn't sure, but I figured I may as well give it a try! 🤷♀️
So, at 36, I gave myself permission to be a complete novice in a new-to-me field, and applied my hard-earned growth mindset from 15 years in the classroom to the adventure. I started out at a local gym, working with a wide variety of general population clients that taught me to be flexible and adaptable. My mindful approach with an emphasis on progressive strength and sustainable gains (physically, mentally, and emotionally) worked for nearly everybody I had the privilege of coaching, and it wasn't long before I realized I was ready to take the next steps!
Leaving the gym was tough - I couldn't imagine what it would look or feel like to build my own business. 😅
This past week, after a full YEAR of building my virtual training business, I hosted my first fitness retreat with my founding BWB members in Orlando. 🎉While I hoped it would be a great experience, I was completely unprepared for just how incredible it was to see the community we've all built together remotely come to life in person. 💜It proved me to me that we all have the power to create community within us. 💪
