Gymtimidation? Curiosity is the Cure! 💪

On this trip to Europe, I got to try several new gyms — and with that came new machines, layouts, and what for some might feel like gymtimidation. 😳 But one thing I’ve learned that always helps me overcome that? Curiosity.

🧠✨ Instead of “What if I look silly?” I try a thought like: “I wonder how this works?” Swapping self-consciousness for curiosity changes everything!

Here’s where curiosity led me:

  • ➡️ Amsterdam: I stumbled into ClubSportive near Zuid Station — dreamy vibes, sleek equipment, Hyrox + Pilates classes, red light therapy, cold plunge, compression boots… total wellness playground.
  • ➡️ London: Got to explore Third Space with my good friend and one of the OG BWB members from beta testing and the first year, Nadia. Third Space was ClubSportive x10: 3 floors of Olympic lifting, WODs, bodyweight work, top coaching, a spa and café. If I lived in London, I’d live there.
  • ➡️ Barry’s Bootcamp, Canary Wharf: My final workout before flying out. Great group vibes, solid studio setup, and a post-class smoothie bar = win.

Trying a new gym, class or machine can 100% trigger gymtimidation — that “what do I do / who’s watching me?” spiral. 🌀

And yeah, maybe someone is watching you. But:

  • 👀 They might be admiring your form.
  • 👀 They may be waiting for the equipment.
  • 👀 They could be zoning out.
  • 👀 Or they love your outfit. 😂

Veteran gym-goers? They’re usually less judgmental, not more. In fact, many are happy to help if you ask.

So next time you’re facing something new (frankly in or out of the gym)— whether it’s a machine you’ve walked past for months or a gym in another country where the etiquette feels unfamiliar—lead with curiosity.

As Ted Lasso says: Be curious, not judgmental. 💪 (And yes, I did take a Richmond day trip. Because of course I did. 😆)
